The SEIS is All Set to Boost Entrepreneurship in Technology Intensive Businesses and Aid Economic Revival in the UK
The Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme is a government initiative to revive small businesses and boost economic growth to pre recession levels. In the scheme big investors are being encouraged to bankroll small and medium sized businesses which are starved of funds.
The business must be UK based high growth and intensive technology oriented company, and belong to a sector approved by the government. Investment and finance concerns are excluded from the purview of the scheme.
The asset size of the concern should not exceed £200,000, and they should have a complement of 25 employees, not more. The investor gets to invest a maximum of £150,000 in two or more taxation years. The investor will get maximum 50% tax exemption in the year of the investment.
The proceeds are also exempted from capital gains taxation. It is expected that the scheme will generate funds for start ups which will fuel economic growth, and aid the development of entrepreneurship in the UK.
